Data modelling is often described as the blueprint for the system. It is the process of analysing the business requirements and processes for the system and providing the map as to how these requirements will fit together and become a system. The end result shows the key entities of the system and the dependencies between them.
Entity Relationship modelling is used to model operational systems. The diagramatic network of entities and relationships between them, define what the system needs to achieve, by identifying relationships between separate pieces of data.
Dimensional modelling uses the concepts of ER modelling, but has a very specific approach which is geared for MIS and Data Warehousing reporting style systems. The Dimensional modelling approach was developed by Ralph Kimball and his design methodology is widely followed in data warehouse design today.
We have considerable experience in both the above mentioned forms of data modelling.
